To determine which tax year you did not file, you must contact the IRS or request a transcript or copy of your tax returns. You can reach the IRS at 800-829-1040, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m to 7 p.m, or go to the IRS.gov website to request a transcript of your tax return, or view your tax records in your IRS online account.

A tax return transcript is available for the current and three prior tax years. It is free to request online, by phone, or by mail.

To get a complete copy of your previously filed tax return, including all attachments like your W-2, submit Form 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return.

Copies of forms 1040, such as 1040A, 1040EZ, and 1040-SR, cost $30 for each requested return, and are usually available for 7 years from filing. After that, you cannot access them.
